Biokovo Nature Park

Biokovo looms directly above Baška Voda, its limestone karst cliffs rising almost vertically from sea level to over 1,700 metres. The mountain is a protected nature park with marked hiking trails, a botanical garden, and a road that winds to the summit plateau. The views from the top take in the full length of the Makarska Riviera and, on clear days, reach across the Adriatic to the islands of Hvar, Brač, and Korčula.

The most popular approach is the road from Makarska that climbs through switchbacks to the Vošac summit area. Hikers can also take steeper trails directly up from the coast — the route from Baška Voda itself is demanding but rewarding. The Skywalk, a glass-floored viewpoint cantilevered over the cliff edge at 1,228 metres, has become the park's signature attraction and is best visited early in the morning before tour groups arrive.

A story
The Biokovo massif is home to the endemic Degenia velebitica — a small yellow flower found nowhere else on earth — as well as wolves and jackals that occasionally descend toward the coastal villages at night.
