Pernstynske Square is where Pardubice feels most like an East Bohemian historic town. The arcaded houses, town hall, and decorated facades are tightly arranged, and the square is small enough to take in without the set-piece grandeur of Prague or Cesky Krumlov.
It is best seen slowly, with time to look up at the house signs and painted details before walking on to the castle.
