Tehvandi Sports Center

Tehvandi Sports Center sits in a forested valley on the southern edge of Otepää and is the technical heart of Estonian skiing. The complex includes a 3 km cross-country ski stadium that hosts FIS World Cup races, a biathlon shooting range, the country's only ski jump, and roller-ski tracks used in summer. Out of season the same trails fill with runners and mountain bikers.

For a casual visitor the appeal is the chance to walk or jog the same loops that the national team trains on, or to take the lift up the ski jump tower for a view across the lake-pocked uplands. The visitor centre rents skis, snowshoes, and bikes by the day.

A story
The Tehvandi ski jump tower is 36 metres high and visible from much of the surrounding country. It was built in the Soviet era to give Estonia a competitive jumping facility and remains the only large ski jump in the Baltic states. Outside winter, the lift up the tower is open to visitors as an unlikely observation deck.
