Viljandi Suspension Bridge

Red pedestrian bridge in the castle hills, moved here in 1931 and loved as a town symbol.

The red suspension bridge is Viljandi's familiar symbol, a light pedestrian bridge strung across the castle hills. It was made in Riga in 1879, later moved to Viljandi, and has been part of the town's image since the 1930s.

Crossing it is a small thing, but it belongs with the castle walk. The bridge gives the ruins a bit of theatre and makes the valley feel deeper than it looks from the street.
