Elduvik

A picturesque village on the northeast coast of Eysturoy, reached by a road that passes through a series of exquisite hanging valleys. The drive alone is worth the detour. Elduvik sits at the head of a narrow inlet, hemmed in by steep grassy slopes that rise straight from the water. A handful of colourful houses, a small church, and not much else — which is precisely the point.

The village is a good starting point for hikes into the surrounding mountains. The ridgeline above Elduvik offers views across to Borðoy and the northern islands, and on clear days you can see all the way to Viðoy. If you are driving the coastal road around Eysturoy, Elduvik makes a worthwhile stop for the scenery and the silence.
