Hiekkasärkät is the reason most visitors know Kalajoki. The dunes and beach run for kilometres along the Bothnian Bay, with walking routes, birdwatching points and the odd feeling of a northern beach resort dropped into Finnish pine country.
Come for an evening walk if you can. The low summer sun makes the sand and sea look far softer than the developed resort edge behind it.
