Carlsro is a former shipowner's summer villa beside Storträsket, about five kilometres north of Kristinestad's centre. It later became a summer hotel and then a local museum, which makes it a good example of how coastal wealth moved between business, leisure and memory.
The setting is half the appeal. If you have a car or bike, combine it with the old town for a fuller picture of Kristinestad beyond the market square.
