Varkaankuru is a good short walk when you want real trail time without committing to a long fell route. The loop runs through a narrow valley where the microclimate keeps the vegetation unusually rich for this far north.
It is especially good in autumn, when the colours are strong and the ground plants stand out. In winter, check local trail conditions before assuming the route is usable on foot.
