Kilpiaapa Mire is one of the easiest ways to see the wetland side of Pelkosenniemi. The duckboard trail takes you out over open aapa mire, where the horizon drops low and the village feels much farther away than it is.
Birdlife is the main reason to go, especially in the warmer months. Bring insect repellent in summer and patience at any time; the pleasure of a mire is usually in slow looking rather than dramatic scenery.
