Isokuru Ravine

Deep ravine below Pyhätunturi, with a Sami sacred spring and waterfall.

Isokuru is the most memorable natural sight at Pyhä: a steep ravine cut below the fells, reached by a marked trail from the resort area. The rock walls and narrow floor make it feel far wilder than its short distance from the village suggests.

The route also passes Pyhänkasteenlampi, the Holy Baptism Spring, a place with older Sami sacred associations and later Christian use. Stay on marked routes; the ravine environment is fragile, and winter conditions can be dangerous.
