Ranua is proud of cloudberries, the tart golden berries that grow in northern bogs and cost enough to be treated with respect. The local cloudberry fair in early August turns that pride into a small seasonal event, with berries, local products, and a useful excuse to visit when the forests and mires are at their greenest.
It is not worth rearranging an entire trip for, but it gives Ranua a food identity that most small Lapland towns lack.
