Lappajärvi Church

Wooden cruciform church from 1765 near the shore of Lake Lappajärvi.

Lappajärvi Church is a wooden cruciform church dating from 1765, standing close to the lake and village centre. It is a modest building compared with Finland's grander churches, but it gives the settlement a historical anchor that is older than most of what visitors otherwise see here.

Stop if you are already in the village or following the lake shore. The church works best as part of a wider Lappajärvi day: a little architecture, a quiet churchyard, and then back to the water and crater landscape.
