Kiutaköngäs is one of the easiest dramatic stops in Oulanka National Park: a short stretch where the Oulanka River squeezes between red cliffs and broken rock. The rapids are close to the Oulanka visitor centre, so you do not need to commit to the full Karhunkierros hike to see them.
The paths near the visitor centre make this a practical half-day outing from Ruka, especially for travellers who want a taste of the park's river scenery without overnight hiking.
