Valtavaara is the strongest viewpoint in the Ruka massif, rising to 492 metres with broad views over forest and lake country. The hill is part of the Valtavaara-Pyhavaara Nature Protection Area and has day-hike routes from Ruka.
The climb is not alpine, but in clear weather the reward is a full northern Finland horizon.
