St Michael's Church is one of Turku's clearest skyline markers, a tall-spired church completed in the early 20th century and designed by Lars Sonck. Its mix of Gothic Revival verticality and Finnish National Romantic detail makes it stand apart from the city's older medieval church architecture.
The church is easy to include on a walk west of the centre or on the way toward the port side of Turku. Step inside if open, but even from the surrounding streets it gives a strong sense of the city's turn-of-the-century confidence and architectural experimentation.
