Kevo protects one of Finland's wildest marked hiking landscapes: a long canyon cut through fell country, with sparse services and strict rules on where visitors may walk. The reserve is best known for the Kevo Canyon route and the Kuivi route, both demanding multi-day hikes with river crossings and exposed weather.
This is not a casual picnic stop from Utsjoki. For prepared hikers, though, it is the strongest reason to come this far north: bare uplands, deep river cuts, rare plants, and a feeling of space that southern Finland cannot offer.
