The Museum of Mechanical Music is the sight that makes Varkaus worth considering. Its collection covers mechanical organs, music boxes, gramophones, jukeboxes, and other machines that once turned music into gears, paper rolls, and needles.
It is much more engaging when the instruments are demonstrated, so check tour and opening times before you go. This is a niche museum, but a memorable one.
