Chambre Neuf is Chamonix's best-known après-ski bar and has been for decades. It opens in the early afternoon when the lifts start closing and reaches full volume — Swedish pop, packed crowd, people still in ski boots — by about 5pm. The atmosphere is good-natured and international, with Scandinavians, Brits, and Australians making up much of the clientele alongside French seasonaires.
The bar serves bottles of beer and simple cocktails at reasonable prices given the volume of alcohol consumed here. It is loud and crowded and not the place for a quiet drink — but it captures something genuine about the Chamonix winter experience that the more polished alternatives do not.
