Face de Bellevarde

The Face de Bellevarde is Val-d'Isère's signature run: steep, exposed, and famous enough that even non-skiers hear the name during winter race broadcasts. It drops more than 850 vertical metres over almost three kilometres, finishing directly above the resort centre. The steepest sections are not casual cruising; this is a run for advanced skiers with fresh legs.

The Olympique cable car makes the access simple, taking you from the village to the Bellevarde sector in a few minutes. If you are not skiing it, the upper station is still worth reaching for the view over Val-d'Isère and the high Tarentaise.

A story
The Face de Bellevarde hosted the men's downhill at the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics. It still carries World Cup races, which is why the final drop into the village feels more like a stadium than an ordinary piste.
