Tignes-Val d'Isère Ski Area

The Tignes-Val d'Isère ski area is the reason the village belongs on an Alpine itinerary. The linked domain has roughly 300 kilometres of marked runs, 161 pistes, and lifts climbing from the valley floor to more than 3,400 metres. That height gives it one of the more dependable seasons in France, usually stretching from late November or early December into early May.

The terrain is broad enough for mixed groups, but it is especially good for confident skiers. Bellevarde, Solaise, and the high link toward Tignes give you long reds, black runs, and enough lift-served off-piste to make hiring a guide worthwhile after fresh snow. Beginners are better served by the protected learning areas on Solaise and the village snow front before roaming the full map.

A story
The ski area was long known as Espace Killy, after Jean-Claude Killy, who grew up in Val-d'Isère before winning three Alpine skiing gold medals at the 1968 Winter Olympics. The name has changed, but the sporting mythology has not really left.
