A Basque-coast surf school teaching on the sand at Uhabia, the long beach at the southern end of Bidart. They are explicit about why they are not at Guéthary itself: the seabed there is rock, which makes a celebrated wave and a bad place to fall off. Groups are capped at eight per instructor and lessons run an hour and forty-five minutes, of which about an hour and a quarter is in the water. Boards and wetsuits are included.
Sessions are set by the tide rather than the clock, and they ring you a couple of days beforehand to confirm the time — so leave a number they can reach you on.
A single group lesson is around €42, three for €126, five for €190, and a five-day intensive €350; private lessons run from €120 depending on numbers. The same operation also sells surf and kitesurf camps further afield, from Morocco to Indonesia, out of an office in Biarritz — but the Bidart school is a straightforward beach school.
