The medieval ramparts of Pujols have only partly survived, but enough remains to give a sense of how the village was once a tightly closed hilltop fortress. The Porte Nord — the northern gate — is the most complete piece: a fortified stone arch with a portcullis groove still visible above, opening onto a short stretch of walkway along the wall.
Walk the perimeter of the village to see the rest. On the western side the view drops down to the Villeneuve-sur-Lot plain; on the south, towards the Lot valley and the orchards beyond. The full loop takes about twenty minutes and is the simplest way to understand the geography of the place — why a village ever sat on a hill this small to begin with.
