Friday morning brings the town to life. Stalls fill the central square and the streets around it with the standard southwestern repertoire — duck breast, foie gras, Agen prunes, walnuts, goat's cheese, river fish, vegetables straight from the orchards. The pace is leisurely and the atmosphere unmistakably provincial.
Arrive before eleven for the best of it. Several producers sell prepared dishes that make an easy lunch back at the riverside or in the gîte. The market is also the easiest place to meet local people and hear the soft, lilting French of the Lot-et-Garonne.
