A yellow stone clock tower from 1483 that straddles the rue de l'Horloge, the main commercial street of the old town. The tower was originally a city gate; the astronomical clock and the bell tower were added in the 15th century. It's the most recognisable image of Auxerre and the natural starting point for a walk through the old centre.
The tower cannot be entered but the street-level archway is always open. The clock face shows solar and lunar cycles as well as hours. Look for it from across the river for the best view of its position in the city skyline.
