Châlons has three linked public gardens along the Marne — collectively known as Les Jards — covering eleven hectares and offering three different garden styles within a short walk. The Petit Jard is the oldest and most formal section, with an arboretum of specimen trees; it also gives the best view of the cathedral's south flank, separated by the canal. The Grand Jard is a French-style garden with aligned chestnut and linden walks. The Jard Anglais, furthest from the centre, adopts a looser English landscape style with views across the water.
The gardens are free and open year-round. They are used heavily by locals for lunchtime walks and are particularly pleasant in early summer when the linden trees are in flower. The canal-side setting is part of what makes Châlons distinctive among Champagne towns — the waterways give the centre an unusually spacious, airy feel.
