Port Vauban

One of Europe's largest yacht harbours, just outside the old town

The harbour wraps around the eastern flank of the old town and is one of the largest yacht ports in Europe. The outer quay — Quai des Milliardaires — is permanently occupied by superyachts, and walking past their bows is a strange piece of Côte d'Azur theatre in its own right. The smaller berths closer to the old walls hold working fishing boats and pleasure craft.

The promenade along the rampart side gives the best views back at the medieval walls and the cathedral bell tower. It's a five-minute walk from anywhere in the old town and worth doing once before sunset.
