The Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs, also known as Notre-Dame des Sept Douleurs, stands just below the old village. Its draw is not scale but survival: wall frescoes from the 15th century, linked to Giovanni Canavesio, in a simple chapel that once welcomed travellers and pilgrims.
Opening can be irregular, so do not build the whole trip around getting inside. Even from outside, the chapel helps explain Peillon's character: a small hill village with more history than its size suggests.
