Lake Lourdes is the town's easiest escape from the crowds around the Sanctuary. The glacial lake sits about three kilometres from the centre, with a roughly six-kilometre walking and cycling loop and open views toward the Pyrenees on clear days.
It is a good reset if you have spent the morning in chapels, queues, and devotional bustle. In warmer months you may find swimming, paddling, canoeing, or fishing; at quieter times, the simple pleasure is a lakeside walk and a picnic away from the souvenir shops.
