Candes-Saint-Martin sits just east of Montsoreau, close enough to treat as part of the same walk or short bike ride. Like Montsoreau, it is built from the pale tufa stone that gives this stretch of the Loire its soft, almost luminous look.
The village is associated with Saint Martin of Tours, who is said to have died here, and its collegiate church gives the little place more architectural weight than its size suggests. Pair it with Montsoreau rather than making a separate expedition.
