Loire-Vienne Confluence

Quiet riverside meeting point where the Vienne flows into the Loire below Montsoreau.

The confluence of the Loire and Vienne is the landscape that explains Montsoreau. The village, the château, and nearby Candes-Saint-Martin all sit around this meeting of waters, with broad river views and low banks that are made for a slow walk rather than a checklist visit.

It is especially good in early morning or late afternoon, when the light catches the pale stone and the traffic along the road has thinned. Cyclists on the Loire à Vélo route pass close by, and it makes a natural pause between Saumur, Montsoreau, and Chinon.
