The Musée du Pays de Sarrebourg occupies a contemporary building adjacent to the Chapelle des Cordeliers and is visited as part of the Parcours Chagall route. The collection is anchored by two strong holdings: Gallo-Roman archaeology from the rich sites of the Sarrebourg basin, including pottery, sculptures, and funerary objects; and the regional decorative arts of Lorraine, particularly the earthenwares and porcelains produced at the nearby Niderviller manufactory since the 18th century.
The museum's showpiece is a large tapestry woven by Yvette Cauquil-Prince after Chagall's preparatory model for a work at the United Nations in New York. It's a different experience from the chapel window — warmer in colour, more domestic in scale — and the two together give a fuller picture of Chagall's late work. Combined ticket with the chapel is available at the door.
