Brasserie de Saint-Omer

Saint-Omer has a working brewery that has been producing beer in the town since 1886, making it one of the oldest continuously operating breweries in northern France. The Brasserie de Saint-Omer produces the Saint-Omer lager that is ubiquitous in the Pas-de-Calais and sold across Europe. Brewery tours run from the visitor centre and include the production facilities, the malt rooms and fermentation tanks, and a tasting at the end.

The brewery is also notable for producing private-label beers for major supermarket chains — including some that are sold under other names across Europe without the consumer knowing they originated here. It is a good example of how a regional industrial product can quietly dominate a market. The tour is family-friendly and gives a useful perspective on one of the region's surviving traditional industries.
