The Thomas Henry Museum is Cherbourg's main art museum, founded from the donations of Thomas Henry, a 19th-century art dealer and curator. It is a good counterweight to the city's naval story, with paintings and drawings that make the centre feel more cultured than the ferry-port label suggests.
It is not the reason to travel to Cherbourg on its own, but it is well worth adding if you have already come for La Cité de la Mer and want a quieter hour indoors.
