Bad Säckingen's covered wooden bridge is the town's best reason to stop. It stretches across the Rhine to Stein in Switzerland, with the border marked on the span and the river moving below through a broad, calm reach.
At about 200 metres, it is usually described as the longest covered wooden bridge in Europe. The claim matters less than the experience: dark timber overhead, water on both sides, and the pleasing absurdity of walking to another country before lunch.
