Schloss Schönau

Riverside palace housing the Trumpet Museum and Bad Säckingen's Scheffel mythology.

Schloss Schönau is the town's literary joke made solid. The palace is tied to Der Trompeter von Säckingen, the 19th-century poem that gave Bad Säckingen its "Trumpeter City" identity, and its museum includes a specialist trumpet collection alongside local history displays.

Even if brass instruments are not your passion, the palace and its park round out the old centre well. Visit after the bridge, when the town's repeated trumpet references have already started to feel less random.
