Located inside the Steintor, one of Bernau's three surviving medieval gates, the Heimatmuseum covers 500 years of local history. The collection includes medieval weapons, textiles, furniture, tools from the old brewing industry, and a reconstructed "black kitchen" showing how people cooked in the 17th–19th centuries. Climb to the tower roof for a view over Bernau's rooftops. Open May to October: Tuesday to Friday 9am–12pm and 2pm–5pm; Saturday and Sunday 10am–1pm and 2pm–5pm.
