Babelsberg Park

Babelsberg Park is the less-visited counterpart to Sanssouci, lying on the eastern side of Potsdam across the Havel River. Designed by Peter Joseph Lenné and Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau in the English landscape garden style, it is a wilder and more romantic park than Sanssouci — rolling terrain, old trees, and a Gothic Revival castle (Schloss Babelsberg) rising above the water on a wooded hill.

The park is part of the same UNESCO World Heritage Site as Sanssouci. The castle itself — a turreted confection in the style of an English medieval castle, built for Prince William from 1833 — can be visited. The walk along the Havel shoreline from the Glienicke Bridge (where Cold War spy exchanges took place) to the park is one of the best ways to see both. Babelsberg is also adjacent to the famous Babelsberg Film Studios, Germany's Hollywood, which offers tours.
