Linggplatz and Old Town

Linggplatz is the old court square of the abbey and the best place to let Bad Hersfeld slow down. Timber-framed houses, patrician facades, and the pedestrian lanes around the square give the centre more texture than you expect from a town that also sits close to major autobahns.

The old town is not a museum village. Shops, cafes, and daily errands still share the streets with the historic houses. Look for the Küsterhaus near the church, often described as the town's oldest timber-frame house, and keep walking toward the monastery precinct to see how tightly the medieval centre was packed.
