The French Garden is Celle's calm green counterweight to the old streets and palace. Its name comes from French court gardeners who worked here in the late 17th century, when Celle still had the habits of a ducal residence.
Today it is a landscaped park with long avenues, lawns, a pond, and memorials, good for a quiet break between the palace and the southern edge of the Altstadt. It is not a blockbuster sight, but it helps the town breathe.
