Alte Liebe is Cuxhaven's classic ship-watching spot. The former quay has become a viewing platform at the harbour entrance, with the Elbe widening toward the North Sea in front of you.
Large vessels pass close enough to make the scale obvious, and loudspeaker announcements often identify the ships and where they are going. It is simple, public, and very Cuxhaven.
