Spiekeroog Beach

The beach on the north side of Spiekeroog is the island's defining feature — wide, clean, backed by high dunes, and often almost empty even in summer compared to the more accessible islands. The lack of cars means the dunes are undisturbed by vehicle tracks, and the beach extends for several kilometres to the east and west of the village access point. The water is shallow and cold, with strong currents — good for windsurfing and kite-surfing but requiring care for swimming.

The dunes behind the beach are protected and form a classic North Sea dune landscape of marram grass and sea buckthorn. In the quieter eastern stretches, you can walk for an hour without seeing another person even in August. The beach is designated as a National Park zone within the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park.
