The Elbe Cycle Route passes through Hitzacker, following one of Germany's great long-distance river corridors. Around town the route is gentle and scenic, with water meadows, small ferries, and open views across the former inner-German borderlands.
You do not need to ride the full route for it to matter here. Even a short out-and-back from Hitzacker gives a good feel for the Elbe landscape that makes the town worth stopping in.
