Wietzer Berg is only 102 metres high, but in the flat heath country around Müden it feels like a viewpoint. Paths cross open heather and look south over the Örtze valley, with the Lönsstein memorial near the top commemorating the heath writer Hermann Löns.
This is the best walk from Müden if you want the landscape rather than just the village. The area also has old burial mounds and Heidschnucken sheep, the hardy moorland breed that helps keep the heath open.
