Bismarck Tower

A stone observation tower on the Harly ridge south of Salzgitter-Bad, built in 1914 as one of hundreds of similar monuments erected across Germany in honour of Chancellor Otto von Bismarck. This one stands in a quiet stretch of mixed woodland and has survived in reasonable condition.

The tower is climbable when open, and the reward is a clear view north over the Salzgitter basin and, on a good day, as far as the Harz mountains to the south. The walk up through the forest from Salzgitter-Bad is straightforward and takes about 30 to 40 minutes on foot. A good leg-stretch if you have time between the city's more central sights.
