Jammertal Memorial Cemetery is not an easy stop, but it gives Salzgitter a depth that the city's post-war streets do not immediately reveal. The cemetery holds victims of forced labour, war, and Nazi persecution, many of them foreign workers brought into the industrial system around the Reichswerke Hermann Goring works.
The grounds are quiet and deliberately plain, with rows of graves and memorial information rather than spectacle. Come here if you want to understand why Salzgitter's industrial history carries such a heavy shadow, and give it the time and silence a place like this deserves.
