Pietzmoor

Restored raised bog crossed by boardwalks south of Schneverdingen.

Pietzmoor is the strongest natural sight near Schneverdingen. A boardwalk loop crosses a restored raised bog that was drained and cut for peat until the 20th century, then gradually rewetted.

It is an easy walk, but it feels different from the open heath: darker water, cotton grass, birch, dragonflies, and the quiet of a landscape that is still recovering. Stay on the boardwalk; the ground off it is fragile and wet.
