Verden Cathedral

Gothic hall church with Romanesque remains from Verden's former bishopric.

Verden Cathedral is the town's serious sight. It is a Gothic hall church, but parts of the earlier Romanesque building remain in the tower and cloister, giving it a layered look rather than a clean textbook style.

The building is not as grand as the famous cathedrals of northern Germany, and that is part of its appeal. It feels like the right scale for Verden: important, old, and still closely tied to the town around it.
