Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge

Landmark 1907 swing bridge linking the harbour city with the Sudstrand waterfront

The Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge is Wilhelmshaven's most recognisable structure, a riveted steel swing bridge from 1907 that still carries road traffic across the harbour. At 159 metres long, it was one of the great engineering statements of the young naval port.

It is worth seeing even if no ship is passing, but the best moment is when the two halves turn aside and the harbour briefly takes priority over the road. The bridge also makes a natural link between the naval museum, the Sudstrand promenade, and the Wadden Sea exhibits.
