The Wadden Sea Visitor Centre is the best indoor introduction to the tidal flats, salt marshes, birds, and marine life of the Lower Saxon coast. Its exhibits are useful before a mudflat walk or boat trip because they explain why this flat, grey-looking shore is one of Europe's great natural systems.
The centre is family-friendly without being childish, with aquariums, hands-on displays, and a large sperm whale skeleton. It works well paired with a waterfront walk, especially in poor weather when the real Wadden Sea is more wind than wonder.
