Jagdhaus Gabelbach

Jagdhaus Gabelbach is a former ducal hunting lodge in the forest above Ilmenau. Today it serves as a museum tied to Goethe, the local landscape, and the courtly hunting culture that once shaped these hills.

It works best as a pause on the walking route rather than as a stand-alone sight. The building gives context to the Goethehaeuschen and Kickelhahn, and it makes the forest feel less anonymous: this was a managed, storied landscape, not just a pretty backdrop.
